Drama Award

The ACG is launching a new Drama Award with a writing competition and is looking for innovative and creative play scripts of 40 to 50 minutes in length. There is no fixed subject but it should in some way reflect the human condition, either personally, socially or politically, or of course these can merge.

The play should not have had a public performance outside a church or school setting where admission has been by a monetary sum.

There are two categories:

The Julian Battersby Award for Young Playwrights of £500. This is in honour of the late Julian Battersby, a long time member and successful actor. This is open to playwrights aged under 30.

The Jasperian Award of £300.
This is open to playwrights aged over 30.

Scripts will be judged by a team of distinguished readers, and their names will be announced in due course.

Entry fee for both categories is £20.

Closing date for entry 10 September.

The two winning scripts will also receive a rehearsed public reading by actors within the membership of ACG, where possible. There may be a further opportunity of a public performance in a London theatre. Full details can be obtained from the office. The competition administrator is Tony Jasper.
